Founded in 2011 by Soprano Ms. Jeong Ae-Ree, New Opera Singapore (NOS) is a non-profit organization of which Mrs. Goh Chok Tong (wife of former Prime Minister of Singapore) is our enthusiastic Grand Patron.
The mission of New Opera Singapore is to reshape the face of opera in Singapore, with an emphasis on developing local talents. We have presented 30 productions and almost 42 community performances over the last 8 years. NOS is highly regarded for its high-quality productions e.g. 'Turn of the Screw' by Benjamin Britten, Montiverdi’s 'L’Incoronatione de Poppea', and our outreach programmes 'Who’s Afraid of Opera' at schools and community centres.
We had the honour of being selected as one of the ‘Best Performances of the Year’ by Straits Times in the consecutive years of 2014 & 2015. As an affirmation of its high standards, NOS’ most recent 2019, two-night best-sold production 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by Benjamin Britten was described by the Straits Times as “impressive for its freshness of ideas and ebullience of delivery”.
